INSTALLING SYMONS METAL FRAMES QUICKLY AND CORRECTLY
Fire-rated metal frames are essential for building safety. They ensure that fire-rated doors and walls perform correctly in the event of a fire. Correct installation is crucial to guarantee fire resistance and compliance with building regulations. In this blog you will learn how to install fire-rated metal frames quickly and correctly.
PREPARATION. MEASURING AND CHECKING.
Good preparation prevents errors and saves time.
- Check the specifications. Consult the technical data sheet of the frame and confirm that it is suitable for the required fire resistance such as 30 or 60 minutes
- Measure the wall opening accurately. The opening must correspond to the frame dimensions while allowing for installation clearance and fire-resistant sealing. Ask for our information on clear opening sizes
- Check the underlying structure. Make sure that the wall or supporting structure is solid and stable as a weak substrate can negatively affect fire performance
INSTALLATION OF THE METAL FRAME: DRY INSTALLATION.
Depending on the type of frame and the wall construction such as drywall, concrete or masonry the installation method may vary. The following general guidelines apply.
For a two-part frame with welded corner joints, installation is straightforward because all fixing brackets are pre-mounted on the frame. Install the front section first followed by the rear section. Refer to the technical data sheet for correct installation details.
For a six-part or multi-part frame with visible mitre joints the frame is assembled using the supplied screws. Each half consists of three parts with pre-mounted fixing brackets. Once assembled, the frame is installed in the same way as a two-part frame.
INSTALLATION IN CONCRETE OR MASONRY
- Position the frame in the opening and install the front section first
- Drill holes at the indicated fixing points and anchor the frame
- Fill the gap between the frame and the wall with approved fire-rated foam
INSTALLATION IN DRYWALL
- Reinforce the wall with plywood
- Fix the frame using the pre-mounted fixing brackets starting with the front section
- Apply fire-rated foam and ensure the frame is perfectly aligned so the door fits correctly
Always consult our installation instructions before installing the frame.
Correct installation of fire-rated metal frames requires precision and knowledge of regulations. Careful preparation accurate installation and proper sealing ensure a safe and reliable result.
